With the piece titled “OCD,” I wanted to visually represent the struggle of growing up with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The monster I created symbolizes the constant thoughts that would run through my head and portrays the way that this disorder made me feel about myself. The eye represents me, being able to see the problem, but not knowing how to fix it. The eye is backed up into the fire, with no escape in sight. There is an overarching feeling of hopelessness and fear to convey the thoughts that can terrorize a person’s mind. The overall message of this piece is to create a better understanding of the effects of OCD on a person while raising awareness that having Obsessive Compulsive Disorder does not make someone any less of a person, and that they are not alone in the mental struggle that this disorder brings.
