 JUROR’S BIO: SAMANTHA FIELDS

Samantha Fields was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1972. After receiving her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art, and her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, she moved to Los Angeles, where she is currently a Professor of Art at California State University, Northridge.

 

She has received numerous awards and recognition, including a prestigious City of Los Angeles (COLA) Individual Artist Grant. She has an extensive exhibition history, including shows at The California Museum of Photography at UCRartsblock, The University Art Museum in Long Beach, The Museum of Art & History, Lancaster, Western Project, & Kim Light/LIGHTBOX Gallery in Los Angeles, Traywick Contemporary in Berkeley, Melanee Cooper Gallery in Chicago, Solway Jones Gallery in Los Angeles, Dirt Gallery in Los Angeles, POST Gallery in Los Angeles, Domestic Setting Gallery in Mar Vista, California, Suzanne Hilberry Gallery in Detroit, Lemberg Gallery in Birmingham, Michigan, and Galerie Enholm Englehorn in Vienna, Austria. She is represented by Traywick Contemporary in Berkeley, California. 

 

Her work has been collected by and exhibited at noted public institutions such as the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, CA; Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, CA; Stanford University Health Care, Stanford, CA; the University Art Museum, CSU Long Beach, CA; Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena, CA; Cranbrook Academy of Art Museum, Cranbrook, MI; Jones Center for Contemporary Art, Austin, TX; and the Irvine Fine Arts Center, Irvine, CA.

 

As a Professor at CSUN, she has served as Associate Chair of the Art Department, Graduate Coordinator, and is currently the area coordinator for both Painting and Foundations. She has served on many committees including: The Department Curriculum Committee, Department Personnel (Chair), Graduate Committee, Scholarship Committee and the Foundation Committee. At the College level she has served as an Assessment Liaison, on the Community Service Learning Committee. She has served on the Faculty Senate, and is currently a member of the MCCAMC Personnel Committee and the Deans Vision Committee. She has been the recipient of The Exceptional Service to Students Award and The MCCAMA Research and Creative Activity Award. 

 

Her work has been reviewed in the Los Angeles Times, ZYZZYVA, ArtWeek, Art in America, Art ltd., Artillery, The Detroit News, The Detroit Free Press and the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
